More "W's"

Tuesday, the kids did not get to put all of the transportation puzzles together, so that was the first thing that they did this morning.

Add caption
These blue lines and curves are from the book writing without tears.  There are 8 big lines, 6 small lines, 6 large curves, and 6 small curves.  With these the children are able to combine lines and curves to make letters.   Here Hyrum has made an "A" with two long lines and one small line
Here Janaye has made an upper case "B"
Lily and Sammy made the upper case "B" and lower case "b"
 Janaye made the "w"
Sammy made S for Sammy
Janaye made this big straight line and small curved lines to make her "J"
Hyrum made two long lines and a small line together to make his "H"
When we had snack time there was a debate as to who would play with this rocket first.  It was a prize for Sam when he went to the dentist this morning.  This kind of thing should be left at home or in your car, as we don't have enough time to eat our snacks and play. Sam was good to share, however.

When asked what they wanted to do next, they replied "go for a walk", so we did We watched for things that sound like the names of the kids.  Hyrum discovered that a house has the ha ha Hyrum sound.

Lily found that lemons sound like la la Lily

There is a magnet on the back so they can put this on the fridge to tell what kind of day it will be
And a brad that attaches an arrow to show us

What do we wear for the different seasons?

 Good book
 last page of book

It was interesting to listen to the kids telling about the weather and what they liked the best.  In Arizona we don't see many changes, but the rain was a hit with the kids this past weekend!
Another interesting day in the lives of these little kids!!

Letter W worms, wind, weather

We had a very windy, rainy weekend and since we are learning the letter "W" we were able to use that letter to talk about the wind and weather.
We are still having trouble with our  cutting abilities, so this worksheet has the movements and lines of letter W and we proceeded to cut .  I usually have them cut the sheet across in smaller pieces so it is easier to handle in their little hands and the first cut was the straight line.
 Sammy moved right along
Lily, however, likes to cut or snip smaller pieces and sort of gets "sidetracked"
This paper shows several watches.

these circles, which had different "w" pictures" were to be pasted on the watches. There was a watermelon slice, a worm, a walrus, a whale and an ant  one of the circles did not get pasted to the watch
Then they were to color the pictures
The girls were moving a little slow this morning so I took the boys into the kitchen to show them what happens to worms when you put them into the water
This is what they look like before they are placed in the water bath
We added some of others to how the difference in size.  Then each tried to get one of the bigger ones out of the dish.  They were like jello, soft and sort of slimey. Ooh, sort of gross!
The little ones were getting restless, so we took this time to "show and tell"  First up was the batman
Next we found this flower headband
 Of course there were cars
 A princess ball
 AND this police cruiser
When we came back from snack time, the kids wanted to make a "W"
We listened to books about the wind and then each was given a pinwheel to blow on so they could see what the wind does  This was the fable about the wind and the sun and who could get the man to take off his coat--the sun won

Then we read this book
Another fun day in Preschool!

Letter P, pigs, penguins, panda bears

This week the letter we are learning is "P".
The upper case "P" was to be colored purple and the lower case "p" was to be colored pink

Two of the children placed these crayons on the table for us to use
This is Joe's picture  looks like a few other colors jumped into the glasses
Then we traced the piece of pizza, colored it and added the toppings--pepperoni, cheese, onions, olives
Sam had brought this book for show and tell and so we read it to the class.  In the book it told of three magic beans.  We found three beans for each child.  A golden coin--Mickey found bags of it at the castle, and a golden egg.(from  the hen who laid golden eggs)
These were given to each of the children
Tuesday was my birthday so the Johnson boys brought these yummy doughnuts to celebrate
I lit the candle and the kids sang the "Happy Birthday" song to me
I gave them milk and they ate doughnuts until they were full
Instead of playing in the playroom today, the kids opted to go out for a walk.  So, I thought that I would turn it into a scavenger hunt.  The first thing they were to find is the American flag.
We next moved on to orange blossoms and what an aroma came from this tree
Where would they find a butterfly??
A rooster, or a weather vane.  What do the letters n, e, s, w  stand for??
Do you think that they would mind if we tried out the tire swing?
Whoa!!  Stop!! We are at the end of the street, time to go back!!
Our next activity was using a push pin to outline the letter "P" and "p"
Fun to watch as they work
A pattern to follow.  These are foam characters
Janaye is trying to get them in order
Next we put bottle lids upside down, to mark the letters on the pages.  Lily does it great
The penguin worksheet has 9 places to mark.  This was a fun one
Next we moved on to find the patterned shirts that match the objects in the above picture
Joey uses a dry erase marker to draw his lines
It is time to play "yell out" when they call out the letter as I flip them over

A break in the activities gives them a chance to show and tell--this is a talking pumpkin
 Dinosaur tattoo
As we sing the alphabet, Sammy points to each letter so we can learn to recognize them

mmmmm  tastes good  popcorn and pretzels
We patterned the blocks, counted them and stacked them  The kids love blocks used in these many ways

 One more book--numbers
And our final book "The Three little Pigs" and the big bad wolf   This one we used for comprehension and the kids did an amazing job getting all of the story right  AND they had fun doing it.

Two days in one learning the things that begin with the letter "P" and lots of fun doing it.  Next week will be the letter "W", so if you have something that begins with that letter, show and tell would be a great time to show them.
PreK is lots of fun.. . . . . . .
