animals letter "A" and Little Red Riding Hood

Thursday again and kids looking forward to Halloween, so for them this will be a long week!!
We got some new carpeting and there were some pieces left over, so I had "Grampa" cut them to the size of a sheet of paper so that we could use them for push pin exercises.  Our first time to use them and the kids all had fun with them  We outlined a ghost in front of the moon and quote "Boo!"  It was a little tricky for them at first, but they quickly caught on (with a little help)!

Still working on tracing our shapes.  This paper has them find the matching shape

This amazing animal book is also a jigsaw puzzle of the animals around the world

 The kids love puzzles and this one was a challenge for them

A friend from work brought me these amazing blocks for the kids and they loved making bridges and castles
with them

Books are always fun and they love to to have them read to them

Another fun time in PreK!

Ants and autumn

Oh, Autumn is in the air--Halloween, too!!
Once again we gave each child a number which they will have Tuesday and Thursday and that will tell  the helping hands assignment and hopefully help them learn the numbers from 1-5

This week's letter is "A" so we repeated all the letters we have had so far.  They all knew all of them and they were rewarded a star for that knowledge

 Next we worked on this worksheet.  The first row they were to put a circle on the upper and lower case A
The next row was octopus and letter "O"  The third row was anteater and again the letter "A"  The next row was a goat and letter "G" and the last was the cat with letter "C"  They all got those right, also

 Hyrum put blue circles  around the "A"

Next, I thought that the kids would love playing in some shaving cream. to make the letters and shapes.  It appears that they do not like to get their hands "dirty" and so this activity will not be used again for a while.

Ms Jo helped them make scarecrows with shapes--rectangle for body, circles for head, hands and feet, a triangle for his hat and his legs are rectangles.  They made funny faces and added dots and hair.

Ms Jo taught them a rhyme about three little ghosts

 AND five little ghosts

 

Then we got out a pumpkin puzzle and the kids loved working together to see who could find  just the right pieces.

 They really worked well together

We remembered we needed to take chains off the monster to remind us how many days are left until Halloween.  Remember Moms, we will costumes that day!!

We added little ants in the spaces of the template for letter "A"

 We then added smiley faced pumpkins, lady bugs, and animal faces.  This one has the moon, too

 Each placed their stickers where ever they wanted them

Then we had to find the witch that was different (hint, letter d)

It was a fun day and just one day closer to HALLOWEEN FUN!!

Goose and ghosts and gorilla

We are finishing up with the letter G and so this morning the very first thing that we did was to make a goose from a paper plate.

 Each goose had different colored feathers and were unique to each child

Then we had a practice sheet where the kids tried to make the C, O, and "G" letters beside the picture of a thing that begins with those letters. This is not an easy thing for this age child, but they made their best effort.  It will be interesting to see how they progress as we go along.

Then, because we give each child a number vest, we hid the foam halloween shapes with their number on them and they had to find their number. And we also held up each letter we have learned to see if they could remember them.  Everyone did very well

We are still learning to use our small motor skills.   Here Lily is putting the shapes into the container

 Janaye is counting out the number of items in her carton. Hmm 4 June bugs, 2 bunnies, etc. . . .

 Sam and Hyrum put the big paper clips in to the right divided area.  There were several colors and each place held another color.

Next they were given halloween cookie cutters to trace their shapes.  They found that if they used black paper, a white crayon really helped in highlighting the shapes.

The kids love reading time and Miss Jo read this "G" book Gorilla, Be Good!! 

She also did finger plays with them.  One was the chocolate chip ghost, one was a poem about a ghost

And their new favorite game is Stop and Go.
Another week gone by and hopefully a good one for the kids.  Lots of fun at preschool and lots of mischief!!
