L words

This morning we started to put the letters we learned so far, together to form easy words.  We discovered that we will need to work more on the sounds of the letters.  They knew the letters, but when asked to sound the word out, it was difficult.  Lesson learned. . . .

 It was also an excercise in cutting and pasting and they are all improving with each activity

 On Tuesday we went on a nature hung and found some leaves of different colors and so today the kids were to make something from the leaves they had collected. 

 We added a few leaf stickers, some markers and they had a good time

 There were lots of leaves left over, but they had fun collecting them and using them today

 When we got together at the kitchen table, I made a lava lamp project for them to see.  First we put a little over half of the bottle with oil.  Then water to about an inch from the top.  When I asked what color they wanted, they all agreed on green, so we mixed some yellow and blue together and there was green.  Then we added an alka seltzer (divided in fourths) and one at a time a quarter of the circle was dropped into the bottle.  They asked what would happen if we dropped all the pieces together, and the second time, we did that.  The water turned out very murky and it wasn't as fun to watch.

 We also discovered that Sam's shirt had some of the letters that we have learned--G O A L

 After our play time the kids came up to color a picture with strawberries, blossoms and lady bugs

 Janae brought a microphone for us to see for her "show and tell"

And  Miss Jo read The Big Red Dog and thanksgiving and Who Loves Fall!

Another fun day--we also tried to put together a 64 piece puzzle and we will finish it on tuesday.  Another lesson learned. . . this sized puzzled takes more time and concentration!!

L. ladybugs, leaves and leopards

This morning after opening exercises we gave each of the children a template of the upper and lower case of letter L and with it small squares with little lady bugs on them which they were to place on the letters.  It is amazing how well they followed the instructions and even though some of them overlaid the pictures, they were on the inside of the lines and all did "mighty fine"

 Then Miss Jo read a poem about leaves that fell from the tree.  As she told of each color, the children colored a leaf of the same.

 Then they made the letter C  letter O and had a great time

 Before we went to the play room we went on a nature hunt to find leaves that we can use Thursday to make pictures

 After play time they were given their "lollipops"  and we worked on putting a puzzle together

 This is the new one we just got and they worked well together to finish it

 On to the last of our activities  On the circles of this leopard are numbers from one to ten and letters that we have studied so far C, O, G, D, S, L  and the best part is that they got to place the skittles on the circles and then eat them when the game was over.

 Miss Jo read a story about the pumpkin patch, so we went out to our pumpkin patch and counted three little ones that we are hoping will finish growing

 This was our last book on flowers and trees and we will use it again when we talk more about the leaves we collected.

Our prize winner today was Janaye who filled her behavioral chart   another fun day at PreK and learing more about numbers and letters.

Seashells, sea horse and letter "S"

This morning we started with our pledge and the kids are saying it so good, and we really are proud of them  We also sang the days of the week song and again they are doing very well.  We then moved on to observing the room and any changes.  They noticed that the "under the sea" curtain is up and that there are fish on it as well as some octopus.  We then proceeded to talk about the creatures that live under the sea as well as the sea weed and other vegetation growing there.  Then we made some sea horses to add to the water.  We looked through this book and as we found the matching shells, each of the children held it up to the picture

 My daughter in law and son went to the beach and were nice enough to bring us back a bag full of these great shells.  My favorite is the sand dollars

 Here are three of our sea horses and you can see the other fish in the back ground

   

 they got to place the sea horses where ever they wanted and this one is very close to the octopus

We traced our numbers from 1 to 5 and each of these kids did very well.  for their age.  We are also working on holding the markers correctly and pressure on them.

 They do recognize the numbers quite well and the writing will come later

Hyrum chose this book to be read.

Janaye wanted to do some fishing with the pole, and as she tried to catch the fish, she got better and getting the magnets hooked together.

They wanted to try to find these ghosts in the rice bags, and found almost all of them before they got distracted

One of their favorite things to do is  match up the objects in the egg cartons.  This one had frogs, bugs, cars,and buttons

The end of another prek day.  We also played skeleton match.  1 is the head, 2 the body, 3 and 4 are the arms and 5 and six are the legs.  It is hard for them not to have a winner, but the counting on the dice is such good experience for them.  We earned some stars today and they worked well together.  Isn't this what it is all about??
