Week of March 26th. 2012

I had hoped to be finished with all the letters of the alphabet this week, but last week we had one boy out on Tuesday and the other out on Thursday and again this week sickness in the class, so we are moving along a little slower so these boys can catch up. So with that said, we are now finished with the letter Y. This activity features Yolanda Yellow. I have used her for a long time-since 2007 and got her here:http://www.dltk-teach.com/colors/myellow.htm . she still exists

She does take a few minutes to do so the boys got right down to it and did a good job

We are still working on recognition of letter and numbers On this worksheet , they circled the alphabet letters and put an x on the numbers. It is hard for some to remember what is a letter and what is a number.
Isn't it good to see correct writing form?? Just another of those things we work on.

On Tuesday we worked on this "Y", which as you can see is a yak. They had fun putting on the hair of the chinney chin chin and the little horns on the top of the "Y" You can find out where this is found on my pinterest site I love trying new ways to present the letters!

Of course the boys had to make the "human letters" Can you make out the "Y"
Legs form the top and arms the bottom in this one
Then the arms the top and the legs the bottom
And when they went to the basement to play they wanted to play "village" and got out all of the little tents and went a little crazy, but had lots of fun
We cut the pool noodle in half and this blue one was used for a marble run Another fun activity

So, we are at the end of another week and they seemed to enjoy the time together and are continuing to learn what they need to know to enter kindergarten in the fall. Stay tuned for next weeks activities.

First Day of Spring and Letter X week

INTRO DUCING!!!! My three X's The boys made human X today and did not believe they could do it all by themselves, without each other!! Yah!!

The black x with cross bones Xray!!
Here's one head shot!!
Here's a head shot!!
I joked he looked like he was cross eyed looking at the curves
Our task is to see if we can follow the dots and stay on the path. Harder than they thought
We are patterning the colors. Repeating the colors as they are placed on the bucket. Sometimes I have to wonder if they actually know the colors, but they really did a good job today
They know the a b c's forward and backward
It isn't hard going from A to Z, right?
What did you say RED spelled?? Let me see, green?? We are working on reading the colors and identifying them by sight.
Not only do we want to be able to read the names of the colors, but are practicing , slowly, to keep inside the lines. We are now timing the project so we can learn how to FOCUS!!
Our first day and there were a lot of points given out today for working slow and sure. They like the rewards at the end of the month!! And X ray fish did get his birthday wish!! Ask them what it was?????

Just before spring break!!

This was letter "J" week!!

The kids- Rockwell and Oakley show off their jeweled pages

Jack and the others once again worked on putting the upper case letters to match the lower case

Then we got out the play dough and the kids made some jungle animals: lion, snakes, monkey, and one we did not quite recognize. But the kids had fun with the dough
elephant
the questionable animal
Oakley made this curled snake

They colored the jungle scenes and then put the animals on their scenes
These next two pictures are when the boys got the hard cardboard tubes and used them to race their cars down through and around the car wash.

Oakley the fireman and to the rescue!

All in all it was another good, fun week. Those firemen do their jobs and we keep on plugging!

K & Q week

Well, here we are the first day of March. A good time to be doing the K theme because there has been a lot of wind this week and today two of the boys earned kites. This first picture shows Jack and Rockwell working on part of the paper work I feel they need to be doing, to write and recognize the letters of the alphabet. The kids are all doing very well at completing their papers; some need a little more help than the others, but they have come a long way since August. We are working a little more closely on how they are holding their pencils so they feel comfortable.

Tuesday we made kites and we are always working on numbers and alphabet recognition

Oakley loves to put puzzles together and here he is with a new one. We try to keep them working on more advanced ones as they master the shapes, colors and wording.

Here is Devin with his purple kite
Outside we went so they could run through the yard and up the driveway, getting the kites to fly above their heads. The day was windy, so it was pretty easy

Thursday we worked with the letter Q. They were to put upper case Q and lower case q around the outside edges. Then they were to color the question mark, and then write little question marks around the colored one. Why?, you ask. Well, one of the things we are working on is following instructions and learning to be creative. Many colors were used for this project and those papers are hanging on the preschool wall for you to see.
Oakley was the first to finish the project--he is learning to focus and so He really deserved this one--a kaliedoscope.
His completed project!
Jack completed his second, which was interesting because he was a little late in getting started, and yet he focused and completed it in good time. He too got a kaliedoscope

We had a little problem earning the last two awards, and when I asked them to tidy up the room, they were amazingly good at it and this is the finished project. Now all I need to do is wipe of tables and vacuum--they used the hand held sweeper, but by Thursday it needs a little more than that. Aah! Another week and two more letters Q and K
